Gastfamilienbrief

Dear Host Family,                                                                                                                                         January 2015

First of all I want to thank-you for giving me the opportunity to spend a year in the US with you. In this letter I want to tell you something about me, my family, my friends, my school, my hobbies and things I like to do.

My name is Ben Ole, and I´m from Germany. I´m 16 years old, and I´m going to be 17 when I arrive in the US. I have got three sisters. We live together with our parents.

My father is a carpenter. I like to help him, and I have learned a lot from him. My mother is a housewife and takes care of our family. We usually eat meals together and tell each other what´s going on. One of my responsibilities is to look after my younger siblings, and I regularly help in the kitchen. Sometimes I prepare a special dinner or bake a cake for a birthday party.

On the weekends we enjoy going on daytrips to the countryside or to visit museums. We like to go on bike rides or on walks in the forests or at the seaside. On vacation we like to spend time with my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins. While I´m gone my parents will also host an YFU exchange student.

I´m in 10th grade at school. Every day I ride to school by bike. My favorite subjects are math, physics, computer science and P.E. As a voluntary service to my school I work in the “event techniques club”. We help run assemblies, theater performances, conferences, sport events or any other kind of school activity.

I´m very interested in mechanical and technical things. I like to find out how they work, and I have learned how to repair things like bicycles, motors or computers.

After my exchange year I will continue in school. I plan to study computer science at the university and to work in an international IT company.

My hobbies are swimming and sailing. I go to swim training every week, but I don´t take part in competitions. In the summer I like to sail either on small boats with my friends or on small sailing yachts with my family. During my last summer vacations I took part in international sailing camps in Denmark, and I also worked as a sailing instructor at a sailing school. I improved my own sailing skills, and I learned how to teach kids and adults. It was a lot of fun. During my exchange year I would like to try other sports.

I´ve always liked travelling and meeting new people. And now … my dream is coming true!

I´m so excited, and I can´t wait to meet you. Thank- you so much for hosting me. I´m looking forward to being a part of your family. I´m also curious about my new school. I want to learn a lot and improve my English. I want to be part of the American culture as well as representing my home country Germany.

See you soon,

Ben Ole
